And when this is a great matter, decisive from Allah and His Messenger, the doer of it has a great need for purification. It is worthy of its greatness that he should not attain the utmost purity except by asking the Prophet ﷺ. And they did not do that, which indicates the evil of their inner selves and the hardness of their hearts. They are like the propped-up wood, in that they have no fruit and no purity at all. By His saying: ﴿And when it is said to them﴾ [meaning] from any speaker: ﴿Come﴾, meaning raise yourselves, striving in that by coming to the noblest of creation, whose position remains high due to the greatness of his status. ﴿He will ask forgiveness for you﴾, meaning he seeks forgiveness for you specifically after you turn away from your sin because of this lie that you insist upon.
