Commentary
And when he urged [the believers] to prayer and guided them that its time is not suitable for seeking anything other than it, and that whenever one seeks something of this world during it, its blessing is obliterated along with what he has earned of sin, he spoke during the time of livelihood. He said, permitting them what he had prohibited upon them. For this reason, Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: 'If you wish, go out, and if you wish, sit down: ﴿So when the prayer has been concluded﴾, meaning that the completion of it has occurred in any manner it may be. ﴿Then disperse﴾, meaning spread out and separate, striving in the land in that ﴿in the land﴾, all of it if you wish. There is no restriction upon you nor hardship, a concession from Allah for you. ﴿And seek﴾, meaning strive and exert yourselves, diligently seeking livelihood ﴿from the bounty of Allah﴾, meaning the favor of the Most High King, who possesses all perfection, and nothing is obligatory upon anyone from Him regarding buying, selling, or other matters of the religion and this world which you were forbidden from.
