And when the condition of this and what is in the beginning of the Surah was known, He followed it with a clear statement of what it conveys, in the best collection, in the best depiction. So He, the Exalted, said: ﴿Indeed, Allah prohibits you﴾, meaning the One who has complete knowledge and power, ﴿about those who fought you﴾, deliberately intending to fight you, being ﴿in the religion﴾. Nothing of that is outside of it, so that enmity may be for the sake of Allah. ﴿And they expelled you from your homes﴾, meaning by themselves due to their hatred of you, ﴿and supported﴾, meaning assisted others ﴿against expelling you﴾. And when this intended meaning was explicitly addressed, and the prohibition, which is related to actions, was attached to their very persons for emphasis, He clarified the intended meaning by saying: ﴿That﴾, meaning indeed, He only prohibits you from those mentioned in that ﴿you take them as allies﴾, meaning you burden your original nature to act with them all that a close, dear, compassionate one would do, so that you declare that they are your allies and support them, even if that is to the slightest extent - as indicated by the omission of the 'ta'.
And when the implication was: So whoever obeys, then those are the successful ones, He added to it His saying: ﴿And whoever takes them as allies﴾, meaning burdens himself to act contrary to what the original nature calls for, which is to oppose. And He made it general and did not restrict it with 'from you' to include the emigrants and others, the believers and others: ﴿Then those﴾, meaning those who are distanced from justice, ﴿are﴾, meaning specifically, not others, the deeply rooted in that they ﴿are the wrongdoers﴾, meaning the deeply rooted in placing things in other than their rightful places, like one who walks in the source of derivation because of this allegiance.
