And when they informed him of their Islam, glorified and exalted is He, they justified it with what necessitated the encompassing, so the totality of that praise necessitated the request. They explicitly stated it, saying, calling for the removal of the tool to indicate the utmost closeness of Him, glorified and exalted is He, with what He has of encompassing: ﴿Our Lord﴾ meaning, O our Sustainer and Benefactor ﴿do not make us﴾ by weakening us and empowering against us ﴿a trial﴾ meaning, a place of testing ﴿for those who disbelieve﴾ by punishing us with a punishment that would lead us away from what we are upon and lead them away from what they have reached because of our Islam from the earthquakes that would require them to believe that if You were pleased with our religion, we would be upon the truth and they would be upon falsehood as long as You are able to do so. This would increase them in transgression, thinking that they are upon the truth and that we are upon falsehood.

And when the head of the wealth of the Muslim is the greatest acknowledgment of deficiency, even if he reaches the utmost in striving, then the deity is at the utmost greatness and distance in the ultimate weakness. Thus, reaching what is due to Him, glorified and exalted is He, cannot be achieved in any way. They said: ﴿And forgive us﴾ meaning, conceal what we are unable to do and erase its trace and effect. And when they requested from Him protection from all sides, they justified it with an increase in supplication and submission and seeking the desired, repeating the attribute of benevolence as an increase in tenderness and appeal by saying: ﴿Our Lord﴾ meaning, the Benefactor to us. They confirmed their declaration of their intense desire for good praise of Him, glorified and exalted is He, and acknowledgment that they may do something of deficiency, so it would be like the actions of one who does not know Him, glorified and exalted is He. They said: ﴿Indeed, You are﴾ meaning, only You and no one else ﴿the Almighty﴾ who overcomes everything and nothing overcomes Him ﴿the Wise﴾ meaning, who places things in their most suitable positions, so it cannot be undone. And whoever is like that is truly deserving to be given beyond what he has requested.
