Commentary

And when their enmity was known, and it was only covered by the love of the relatives, for love for something blinds and deafens, he corrected their opinion regarding their allegiance to them by what he informed them of their states. He discouraged them from what pertains to the state of those who allied with them for their sake, due to what it brings of eternal misery on the Day of Resurrection. He said, beginning to inform them that it is a mistake in every case: ﴿Your relatives will not benefit you﴾, meaning in any way ﴿nor your children﴾, those who are your closest relatives. If you ally with the enemies of Allah for their sake, you should not count their closeness to you in any way at all. Then he explained that by saying: ﴿On the Day of Resurrection﴾, meaning the greatest resurrection.

And when the negation of benefit and the occurrence of separation is not due to a specific separator, he stated, building the action on the reading of Abu Amr, Nafi, Ibn Kathir, Abu Ja'far, and Ibn Amir from most of its ways, except that he emphasized the صاد for the sake of exaggeration in the separation: ﴿He will separate﴾, meaning he will cause the separation, which is the great division by cutting off all causes ﴿between you﴾, meaning, O people. He will admit whom He wills from the people of His obedience into Paradise, and whom He wills from the people of His disobedience into the Fire. No one will benefit another from you in anything except if he comes to Allah with a sound heart, then Allah will permit honoring him by that.

And when the specification indicates that Allah is the separator and is the harmful and beneficial as indicated by the reading of the others, except that Hamzah and Al-Kisai with the ي being pronounced as a long vowel and the ف being opened, and the ص being broken and emphasized, is an indication of the greatness of this separation by its deviation from the usual, returning to the greatest name, indicating the greatness of the matter by the spread of the creatures and their deeds: for Allah is capable of that. He added to it His saying: ﴿And Allah﴾, meaning the One who has complete encompassing ﴿is All-Seer of what you do﴾, meaning of every action at every time ﴿and will reward you for it in this world and the Hereafter﴾. It has been mentioned more than once that the precedence of the preposition in such matters is to alert to the increased attention to the knowledge of that, not for the sake of specification or for the sake of the separations.
