And when He specified - glorified and exalted is He - regarding these, and concluded with the preference of each over the worlds, He followed it in a general manner by saying that others were guided, and that the virtue of these is the reason for the specification for them regarding their names. He said, encouraging the following of this path by the abundance of its travelers and urging competition among them in the goodness of steadfastness upon it and following it: "And from" meaning: and We guided or: and We preferred from "their forefathers" meaning: their origins "and their descendants" meaning: from their branches, from men and women, "and their brothers" meaning: the branches of their origins. And He added to the implied subject His saying: "And We chose them" meaning: and We selected them. Then He added to it a clarification of what they were guided to, urging us to thank Him for what He has increased us of His favor, saying: "And We guided them" meaning: by what has preceded of guidance "to a straight path." As for the straight path, We have specifically chosen you for it and established you upon it, so recognize Our favor upon you and remember Our preference for you.
