Commentary

And when the two mentioned before were among those whom He had empowered over the kings, He followed them with one who empowered the kings against them by killing. So He said: ﴿And Zakariya and Yahya﴾. Then He followed them with one whom the kings opposed, and they were not empowered over them. And Allah - glorified and exalted is He - prolonged their lives until He wills - glorified and exalted is He - and He said: ﴿And 'Isa and Ilyas﴾. And when these four were among the patient ones, He praised them in a way that encompasses those before them: ﴿All of them﴾ meaning: from those mentioned ﴿are among the righteous﴾.
