Commentary
Then he explained what was commanded, as if he said: to submit (and to establish the prayer) for His sake (and to fear Him) along with that. This means: perform it not in mockery and play, but in the spirit of piety and vigilance, so that what is apparent from it indicates what is hidden of Islam for the doer of good.
And when the implication is: for He is the One who began your creation from clay, and then you are formed humans. He made you alive, and by His power, you spread over the days. He added to this His saying: (and He is the One to whom) meaning: not to anyone else after your resurrection from death (you will be gathered). He brought forth the resurrection, which they deny due to the abundance of evidence he established regarding the completeness of power in a context indicating that there is no room for disagreement in it. The consideration is only in what lies beyond that, which is that their actions for falsehood justify placing them in the position of one who believes that he will be gathered to others—glorified and exalted is He—who has no power over their recompense. He informed them that the gathering is to Him and not to anyone else; for there is no speech there except for Him. There is no connection among those gathered nor any support as in this world. The overall meaning, along with that, serves as a justification for the command to be pious. It has become clear that the verse is from the type of interweaving, for he omitted the prayer first to indicate its mention second, and Islam second to indicate its mention first.
