Commentary
Then he confirmed that for whoever has a heart hardened in harshness, clarifying what is in others of a dire consequence. He said: "Say, if I had with me what you are hastening for," meaning: hypothetically, "the punishment you are hastening for, it would have been decided." He constructed it for the passive form because the feared matter is indeed destruction, not being from a specific source. "The matter is between me and you," meaning: I would destroy whoever opposes me in anger for my Lord due to what has appeared to me from their arrogance towards Him. And there may be among them one who is written in the register of the happy ones, but the matter is not for me because I do not know the oppressor with Allah from others. So the matter is only to Allah; for He knows best the just ones, and He will save them. "And Allah," meaning: He who has all perfection, "knows best the oppressors," meaning: those written in the register of the oppressors, and He will destroy them.
