And when he ﷺ forbade him from expelling them, he taught him how to be kind to them. He said: [being considerate of what you can estimate: And when those come to you who despise the weak among My servants, do not pay attention to them]: ﴿And when those come to you﴾ and he made evident the place of the implicit indication as a sign of the description that necessitates honoring them and generalizing it to others. He said: ﴿Those who believe﴾ meaning: they are either them or others, whether they are rich or poor. He indicated with the manifestation of greatness that they have believed in what is worthy of being believed in, so he said: ﴿In Our signs﴾ according to what they have of greatness in relation to us. ﴿So say﴾ meaning: to them, beginning with peace as an honor for them and to soothe their hearts. ﴿Peace be upon you﴾ meaning: safety from me and from Allah, and he made it indefinite for what befalls them in this world from calamities; then he justified that by saying: ﴿Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy﴾ meaning: the One who is good to you. Then he justified that [by saying] and began with what results from it that He knows of man the deficiency; because He has created him with the nature of loss except for one who makes him a place of gratitude. So he said: ﴿That whoever among you does a wrong﴾ meaning: any wrong that is mixed up ﴿in ignorance﴾ meaning: in foolishness or in lightness and hastiness that has taken him away from the truth and knowledge until he is as if he knows nothing. ﴿Then he repents﴾ meaning: he returns with regret and cessation even if a long time passes. And for this reason, he included the neighbor, so he said: ﴿After that﴾ meaning: after that deed ﴿and rectifies﴾ by continuing in good. 'For indeed' meaning: your Lord - because of this repentance - will forgive him; because He is always ﴿Forgiving﴾ meaning: the One who covers and erases what has been from that. ﴿Merciful﴾ honors the one who repents with this repentance by making him like one who has done good after making him with forgiveness like one who has not sinned. And whoever persists and corrupts, then He will punish him; because He is Exalted and Wise. And perhaps the verse is referring to [what] the polytheists have accused them of lack of sincerity, and it may then be indicated that what is meant by the reckoning is the accountability for sins.
