Commentary
And when He commanded him to reprimand them, He commanded him - in addition to His saying (Say) - to warn them in a way that is humiliating for them as well. He said: ﴿And warn by it﴾ meaning: by what is revealed to you. The intention is not to specify the warning to the fearful, but rather to indicate their coarseness and great ignorance, and their density in not permitting the permissible, which is something that everyone should fear by His saying: ﴿Those who fear﴾ meaning: permitting the permissible rationally and by custom.
And when the feared matter is the gathering itself, not by virtue of it being from a specific one - the saying ﴿that they be gathered﴾ is built for the passive meaning: they are gathered while they are averse ﴿to their Lord﴾ meaning: the One who has done good to them by bringing them into existence and nurturing them while they fall short in gratitude, at a time when ﴿they have no﴾ and He indicated the belittlement of everything else and its insignificance by the preposition, saying: ﴿besides Him﴾ meaning: from the status that is beneath His status. It is known that everything is under the domination of His greatness and is insignificant compared to His rank. They do not have that, meaning: in the manner of singularity or intercession. ﴿And no ally﴾ will take care of their affairs and save them from what they fear. ﴿And no intercessor﴾ will save them by virtue of his good standing and great rank and arrangement. ﴿Perhaps they may be conscious﴾ meaning: so that their state may be like that of one who is hoped to place a barrier between himself and the punishment of Allah.
