Commentary
And when all of this was in the context of the struggle against those who denied the messengers and turned away from what their Lord sent them with of the signs, of which there is not one except that humans have believed in something similar, and their request from them what only their sender can bring forth, which is other than what they brought with them of the signs - He clarified to them the reality of the message, pointing to their injustice in their request from the messengers what can only be asked of the deity. So He said, adding to ﴿And certainly We have sent to nations before you﴾ [Al-An'am: 42] ﴿And We do not send﴾ meaning: by virtue of our greatness ﴿the messengers﴾ meaning: We establish this matter in this time and every time from the past and otherwise ﴿except as bearers of good news﴾ for those who obey ﴿and warners﴾ for those who disobey, deeply rooted in each of the two descriptions, not responding to what the nations propose, nor punishing those who oppose them; then He caused from that the ultimate purpose of the message regarding benefit and harm, saying: ﴿So whoever believes and does righteousness﴾ meaning: in confirmation of his faith ﴿there is no fear upon them﴾ meaning: in this world nor in the Hereafter. As for in the Hereafter, it is clear, and as for in this fleeting world, it is because their fear in it increases their security in the everlasting Hereafter, so it is towards annihilation then to eternal joy, thus it is nonexistence ﴿And they will not grieve﴾ meaning: grief that harms their everlasting life.
