So when the evidence became clear and the arguments were reinforced, while they turned away from it - this is connected to his saying, turning away from them as a sign of their deserving severe anger: ﴿And no sign comes to them﴾, meaning: these are the ones who are deserving of being turned away from. And he intensified the negation by saying: ﴿from a sign﴾, meaning: a sign of the truth of what their Messenger has called them to, blessings and peace be upon him. And he specified it by saying: ﴿from the signs of their Lord﴾, meaning: the One who is gracious to them by establishing the evidence, pouring forth reason, and sending the Messenger. ﴿Except that they were turning away from it﴾, meaning: this is their constant characteristic, aimed at stubbornness so that the proof does not become obligatory upon them. And it is possible that this is connected to ( يَعْدِلُونَ).
