And when He comforted him with the promise of victory caused by the knowledge of the Sender, the Able One, and that their denial is indeed for Him - glorified and exalted is He - and yet He remains patient with them and overlooks them, rather He does good to them with provision and benefits. It was added that this is a tradition among His brothers from the messengers. So He said: ﴿And certainly﴾ and when the one who is denied is the denial itself, not the being from a specific one, His saying was built for the passive: ﴿The messengers were denied﴾.

And when their denial did not take a long time, [and the sharing in something makes it easier, and the closer the time comes, the more deserving it is of that], He included the neighbor, so He said: ﴿Before you﴾ by their denying what they know of their truthfulness and trustworthiness, just as was done with you. ﴿So they were patient﴾ meaning: it was caused by the denial of their people that they were patient ﴿upon what they were denied and harmed﴾ meaning: they were also patient upon what they were harmed. Then He referred to the promise of victory on the condition of patience, so He said: ﴿Until﴾ meaning: and their patience extended until ﴿Our victory came to them﴾ meaning: let there be for you in them an example, and in them is solace, so be patient until victory comes to you as it came to them. For certainly, Our word has preceded for Our messengers that indeed they are the ones who will be given victory in Our saying: ﴿Indeed, the party of Allah, they are the victorious﴾ [Al-Ma'idah: 56] ﴿And there is no changing the words of Allah﴾ meaning: for He has all the greatness, so there is no equal to Him. And He indicated - glorified and exalted is He - the difficulty of the station of patience very emphatically, so He said: ﴿And certainly, there has come to you﴾ and indicated the greatness of what they endured by His saying: ﴿The news of the messengers﴾ meaning: their great news in their patience, endurance, obedience, compliance, and kindness to those to whom they were sent, and Our victory for them against those who transgressed against them. And the coming of their news has preceded in general and in detail. As for in general, it is in the like of His saying: ﴿And how many a prophet fought with him many worshipers﴾ [Al-Imran: 146] ﴿So whenever a messenger came to you with what your souls did not desire﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 87]. And as for in detail, it is in the mention of Musa and 'Isa and others; and in His saying ﴿So they were patient﴾ is the clearest evidence of what has preceded from that the prohibition of grief is a prohibition of its follower which leads to the absence of patience, and the expression with 'min' in the partitive sense is an exaggeration of what they encountered, for it is more eloquent in consolation.
