Commentary
And when this was among the most astonishing of wonders, He indicated it by His saying: "Look" and by the questioning in His saying: "How did they lie?" And by the indication that they did it while they knew what had been uncovered for them from the veil that it would not benefit them by His saying: "against themselves". This is similar to His saying: "They will swear to him as they swear to you" [Al-Mujadila: 18].
And when their saying was a guide to the fact that their partners were absent from them, and they did not benefit them with any benefit, and the informing of the loss of what he was approaching, rejoicing in it - pleasing to his adversary, bringing him grief - he stated it clearly in His saying: "And misled" meaning: they were absent "from them" either truly or metaphorically, or they are in regard to two times, so that it would be a denial of "what they were fabricating" meaning: they were deliberately lying in claiming partnership out of stubbornness against what is contrary to it from the clear evidence.
