Commentary
And when he made it known that he deserves it for His essence and attributes, he made it known that he alone deserves it. So he said: ﴿There is no partner for Him﴾ meaning: so that there would be for His partner - according to your claim - something of worship when He has something of lordship. Thus, he clarified that his face ﷺ and the face of those who follow him are one without any separation in it. It is the intention of Allah alone in the manner of sincerity, just as He is singled out in giving life and causing death, so He should be singled out in worship.
And when he indicated that with the proof of reason, he followed it with the certainty of transmission. He said [adding to what you can infer]: ﴿And with that﴾ meaning: the high matter of directing my affairs to Him in the manner of sincerity.
And when there is for Him, glorified and exalted is He, in everything a sign that indicates that He is one, then everything commands with monotheism by its state or by its explicit words. The saying of the one who is acted upon is built upon: ﴿I have been commanded﴾ meaning: that this religion, if there were no command in it, it would be necessary for the rational person to adhere to it and not deviate from it due to its strong clarity and the spread of its light based on the evidence that supports it and the ranks of the virtuous and the distinguished who have followed it. So how about when the divine commands are manifested and the divine calls invite to it? ﴿And I am the first of the Muslims﴾ meaning: the submissive ones to what the caller of Allah invites to in this religion. There is no choice for me at all, rather I am deprived of choice in it, fully submissive. And this precedence is in the manner of absoluteness in time and rank in relation to his nation ﷺ and in rank in relation to those who preceded him from the prophets and others. And this is also from the aspect of goodness in supplication by advancing to what he invites to and loving for the one being invited what he loves for himself, so that it may be a refutation of the accusation and a clearer indication of sincerity, making it more likely to be accepted.
