And when wealth is equivalent to the soul in that there is no sustenance for it except by it, he began the next verse with wealth. And since the most significant and sacred of it is the wealth of the orphan due to his weakness and lack of supporters, he began with it and prohibited approaching it, let alone consuming or drinking it. He said: "And do not approach the wealth of the orphan," meaning: in a way of proximity, whether in action or otherwise, "except in the best way," meaning: in the best of characteristics, such as striving for its growth and investment, and let that continue "until he reaches maturity," which is an age at which he typically attains the capacity of reason, and reason is that by which his soundness appears. Then he followed with the measures in a manner that encompasses, saying: "And give full measure and weight," for they are the criteria in the wealth of orphans and others. And when something may sometimes be referred to by what is close to it, like saying, "The prayer has been established," meaning: its establishment is near, and this is the time of such and such - and if it is very close, this possibility is removed by his saying: "with justice," meaning: fulfilling it without excess or deficiency.
And since the measures hardly equalize, especially the scale, for it is the farthest from that, and the closest is the hand span, which is included in the measure, for it is said: he measured something with something: he compared it. He indicated that it is not upon the one obligated, whose matter is based on inability due to weakness, except for effort. He said: "We do not burden a soul except according to its capacity," and what is beyond capacity is excused. Then he emphasized justice in speech because it is the criterion for wealth and others, and he placed the action before it because it indicates it. Thus, the action is recommended twice. He said: "And when you speak," meaning: in testimony or in judgment or reconciliation between two or otherwise, "then be just," meaning: reconciling between the saying and the action.
And since souls are inclined towards compassion for the relative, he said: "And if it is one of kin," meaning: what is said regarding him, whether in testimony or otherwise, "do not favor him out of desire for his support or fear of harm from him." Then he concluded with the covenant to encompass all in saying and action, saying: "And fulfill the covenant of Allah," meaning: the greatest King specifically. "This includes all that is upon a person and for him, for Allah has not neglected anything without prior mention of it." Then he affirmed the greatness of that by saying: "This is what you were enjoined with," meaning: your Lord who is gracious to you.
And when these actions and sayings are severe on the soul, it is just to be in them due to their being desires. He advanced with encouragement in them and warning against them by stating that whoever does anything of them with others is close to having something similar done to him. Therefore, he urged remembrance in the advice regarding them, and because they are hidden and require more contemplation. He said: "Perhaps you will remember," meaning: so that you may be in a position to attain remembrance - even if in a hidden manner, as indicated by the merging. In what your souls are inclined to love, like that for you, so that you judge for others by what you judge for yourselves.
