Commentary
And when it was established that He has the two attributes necessary for power, this resulted in His saying as a response to their hastening for the punishment in mockery: "Indeed, what you are promised" means: of resurrection and others, "is coming" meaning: it must occur because the one who threatens does not change his words and there is no equal to oppose him in it. "And you are not able to cause failure" means: you are not able to bring forth anything that the adversary cannot overcome. Thus, the matter is established from His side and from your side due to the existence of the necessity and the absence of the impediment. In this, there is a confirmation of His mercy because when the Able One intends punishment, He takes by surprise and does not threaten. And when He intends mercy, He precedes with the warning so that the winners may take heed and the losers may submit.
