And when he answered the doubts of the disbelievers and clarified the truth of his prophethood - blessings and peace be upon him - he began to urge turning away from the ignorance of the ignorant and turning towards the One of Glory. The intended meaning was: If you obey him in what he commands you, you will be guided to the path of Allah, which will fulfill for you all that He has promised you. He then added his saying: 'And if you obey.' And since most souls are bound by the majority, he indicated that this will only be done by an ignorant person who is devoted to imitation. He said: 'Most of those on earth,' meaning: Your obedience to them exists in some of the times after you have known that most of them only follow desires and that most of them are sinful, not knowing and not being grateful. 'They will mislead you from the path of Allah,' meaning: the one that encompasses the attributes of perfection. Then he explained this by saying: 'Indeed,' meaning: because they do not follow in their affairs 'except conjecture,' as these ignorant ones mistakenly believe that their forefathers were upon the truth.

And when most of those who assert matters do so based on what their conjecture leads them to, which is false, and the term 'kharris' is said about the liar and the guesser, he said: 'And they do not,' meaning: with the sincerity of their innermost selves 'except guess.' That is, they assert matters based on what they estimate, and the truth is revealed to be that it is a lie. Thus, the difference between you and them is known in the completeness of the speech and its penetration like the penetration of arrows, or its failure to be complete and its retreat like a dull sword. So there remains no doubt in the matter of the one who is right and the one who is false.
