Commentary
And when He concluded with the glorification of what they said about partners and offspring, He proved this glorification by stating that all creation is His, and His knowledge encompasses them. The created cannot be like the Creator. So He said: "The Originator of the heavens and the earth," meaning: the One who originated them. He has the attribute of creation, meaning: the ability to create is established. Whoever has such a quality is free from the need for offspring. Therefore, it is fitting to express amazement in His saying: "How can He have a child?" and He increased the amazement by saying: "And there has not been for Him a companion," while the case is that He "created everything," meaning: everything that is possible to create from any companion that is assumed, and every child that is imagined, and every partner that is claimed. So how can the Originator be in need of anything from that in the manner of offspring or otherwise.
And when the ability cannot be complete except with the comprehensiveness of knowledge, He said: "And He is" and did not imply a hint that the generality of knowledge has no specification in it like creation. So He said: "All-Knowing of everything," meaning: He is capable of everything; because the comprehensiveness of knowledge necessitates the completeness of ability - as its proof will come, if Allah wills, in (Ta-Ha). And whoever has a child does not encompass knowledge or ability; rather, he would be in need of procreation.
