And when He mentioned His limits, and hinted at the kindness towards those who are not included in it, to the glad tidings of its protector, and He explicitly threatened those who exceed them, He followed that with a detailed account of their punishment, from which is the glad tidings of the believers of victory over them. He said, confirming due to their denial that they would be defeated despite their numbers and strength and the weakness of His party and their fewness: "Indeed, those who oppose Allah" meaning those who contend against the Sovereign, the Most High, regarding His limits to establish limits other than them. And that is in the form of enmity, renewing that and continuing in it with any opposition that may exist, even if it is hidden - as indicated by the merging, like the opposition of the people of union who follow the ambiguous and apply it literally, thus corrupting the definitive to distort the entire Sharia. For indeed, much of the Surah was revealed concerning the hypocrites, the Jews, and the peace-makers, as will come in the whispering and others. "And His Messenger" whose honor is from His honor. "They were defeated" meaning they were struck down and fell on their faces, and they were broken, humiliated, and disgraced, and they did not achieve victory. And they were returned with their rage in every matter they sought from any oppressor, no matter how easy or simple it was. And He expressed it in the past tense as an indication of its realization and the completion of His decree, just as He completed what had passed. Therefore, He said, so that the call may be coupled with its evidence: "As those were defeated." And when the opponents did not encompass all past times and places, He included the neighbor and said: "Before them" meaning the opponents like the people of Noah and those after them who persisted in disobedience and did not submit to any evidence or proof. Al-Qushayri said: And whoever neglects the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and introduces an innovation into his religion has joined this path and has fallen into this humiliation.

And when the discourse had fulfilled its share of clarification, encouragement, and intimidation, He referred back to the beginning of the Surah or to what may be estimated as follows: Indeed, there has been for you from the beginning of Islam until this time that which indicates His glory with victory and assistance alongside His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and his followers, may Allah be pleased with them, is considered. His saying: "And We have sent down" meaning with what we have of greatness upon you and upon those before you "clear signs" meaning great indications that are in the utmost clarity for that and for all that belief depends on, by leaving the opposition and obtaining submission. And when the estimation was: So for the believers in it is an everlasting bliss in a secure station, He followed that with His saying: "And for the disbelievers" meaning those firmly rooted in disbelief in it and in other matters of Allah "is a humiliating punishment" due to their arrogance and their delusion over the allies of Allah and His laws, that punishment humiliates them and removes their honor and pride, and they will leave their opposition with it.
