And when the conclusion of the verse indicated ease, and there were those who falsely claimed the absence of finding, thus they would experience hardship, and He, glorified and exalted is He, was greatly concerned for the salvation of this nation. This indicated His kindness towards them by abrogating it after its obligation. He said, reproaching those who are stingy with wealth and calling them to abandon it without obligation: "Are you afraid?" meaning, are you afraid of poverty due to what the devil promises you of poverty, a fear that almost breaks your hearts. "To give" [meaning] by giving to the poor, who are your brothers. "Before your private conversations" meaning to the Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him. He gathered it because it is more reproachful in that it indicates that the private conversations are repeated. This indicates their lack of fear of the Prophet's hardship from that and their fear of doing charity. He said: "Charities" and some of them left it while they were able. Thus, He, glorified and exalted is He, clarified His mercy towards them by abrogating it for them in a place of punishment for others when they abandon it.
And when those before us were tasked with a difficult matter and were compelled to adhere to it as if a mountain were raised above them, if they disobeyed, they were punished. He clarified the virtue of this nation by that He lightened it for them. He said, expressing in a way that may imply that some of them left it out of ability: "So when" meaning at the time "you did not do" meaning what you were commanded regarding charity for the private conversations due to this fear. "And Allah accepted repentance" meaning the Most High King, who is of such greatness that He would punish those who abandon His command. "Upon you" meaning He returned (p-384) to those who left charity out of ability, and to those who gave charity, and to those who did not find to do like their previous state of broad permissibility, pardon, and excuse, and leniency before obligation, and He did not punish you for abandonment nor for the appearance of your engagement in that. Mujahid ibn Hayyan said: That was for ten nights, then it was abrogated. And al-Kalbi said: It was only for an hour of the day. And in any case, it did not connect with what preceded it in descent, even if it was connected with it in recitation and occurrence. "So establish" due to the pardon upon you, in gratitude for this generosity and forbearance, "the prayer" which is purification for your souls and a connection for you with your Lord. "And give the zakat" which is purity for your bodies and a cleansing and growth for your wealth and a connection with your brothers. And do not neglect anything of that so that you abandon it. For prayer is light that guides to worldly and otherworldly objectives, and it helps with the calamities of both abodes. And charity is proof of the sincerity of intention in prayer.
And when he specified the most honorable of bodily acts of worship and the highest of financial rites, he broadly stated, urging an increase in the light and evidence by which the similarity in morals occurs. Thus, the supplication would be of the greatest acceptance and expenditure. He said: ﴿And obey Allah﴾ meaning the One who has all perfection, for He has no partner in His creation of you based on what you are upon. ﴿And His Messenger﴾ whose greatness is from His greatness in all that He commands. Indeed, He has not commanded you for the sake of honoring your Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him, except with the pure and lenient faith. He made the preservation of that a substitute for what He commanded you. Then He abrogated it for you from the precedence of charity over private conversation.
And when He had pardoned a matter, the context indicated that there had been negligence in it. Thus, that perhaps led to the violation of the sanctities. He warned against His side by encompassing knowledge, and He expressed it with the news because the beginning of the verse reprimanded a hidden matter and did not exaggerate in prioritizing the neighbor due to what is in it of apparent matters. He said, adding to what you estimate: So Allah loves those who obey: ﴿And Allah﴾ meaning the One who encompasses everything with power and knowledge ﴿is All-Aware of what you do﴾ meaning you renew your actions. He knows their inner aspects just as He knows their outer aspects.
