And when the evidence was established for His glorification, exalted is He, from any blemish of deficiency, and His encompassing of every attribute of perfection, which necessitates the affirmation that the dominion belongs to Him, which certainly requires His uniqueness in the universality of divinity, which necessitates sending whom He wills to all those in His dominion. And He concluded with knowledge of the inner thoughts, the greatest of which is faith, saying, commanding submission to Him and to His Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him: "Believe" meaning, O two heavy ones, "in Allah" meaning the Greatest King who has no equal, "and His Messenger" whose greatness is from His greatness. And since faith is the foundation, and spending is an apparent aspect and head, He said, combining between the hidden carrying foundation and the complete, beautiful apparent aspect: "And spend" meaning in manifesting His religion. And He encouraged them in that by requesting a little of what He has given them [Allah] and discouraged them from it by saying: "of what He has made you" meaning by His power, "successors" meaning something required and existing contrary to you "in it," and it belongs to Him rather than you by what pleases the One who has made you successors in establishing His path. So be pleased with it in your souls because it is not truly yours; rather, you are merely custodians. And fear being removed from the succession by having it taken from your hands by appointing others over it, either in your lifetime or after your death, as He did with others when He conveyed to you what reached you from their wealth. So you have nothing from it except what you have eaten and consumed, or what you have worn and worn out, or what you have given in charity and preserved - and in another narration: "and what you have spent." And let the spending from it be easy upon you as it is easy for a person to spend from the wealth of another if he has been permitted to do so.

And when He commanded spending and described it with what He made easy, He caused to arise from it what encourages it. He said, emphasizing the promise for what is involved in committing it with difficulty by expressing it with the nominal sentence and basing [the ruling] on the pronoun with the description of the great: "Indeed, those who believed" and clarified that this is specific to them due to the narrowness of their condition in their time. He said: "from you and spend" meaning from their wealth in the avenues to which He has invited them for the purpose of reform, as indicated by the expression of spending. "For them is a great reward" meaning that your minds cannot grasp the reality of its greatness, so seize the opportunity to spend in the days of your succession before your removal and destruction.
