يَوۡمَ يَقُولُ ٱلۡمُنَٰفِقُونَ وَٱلۡمُنَٰفِقَٰتُ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱنظُرُونَا نَقۡتَبِسۡ مِن نُّورِكُمۡ قِيلَ ٱرۡجِعُواْ وَرَآءَكُمۡ فَٱلۡتَمِسُواْ نُورٗاۖ فَضُرِبَ بَيۡنَهُم بِسُورٖ لَّهُۥ بَابُۢ بَاطِنُهُۥ فِيهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَةُ وَظَٰهِرُهُۥ مِن قِبَلِهِ ٱلۡعَذَابُ ١٣ ﴿13
13- the Day when the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believe, “Wait for us, so that we may have a share from your light.”It will be said (to them), “Go back to your rear, and search for light.” Then a wall will be placed between them, which will have a gate. In its inner side, there will be the divine mercy, while towards its outer side, there will be the divine punishment.

And when He magnified this noble reward by clarifying what is for its people at the time it occurs, He magnified it by what is for their opposites from punishment. So He said, changing from the first context: ﴿The Day when it will be said﴾ meaning a renewed saying regarding what compels them to the great and difficult matters. ﴿The hypocrites and the hypocritical women﴾ meaning those who are adept at showing faith while concealing disbelief. ﴿To those who have believed﴾ meaning outwardly and inwardly. As for those who are above this age among the believers and those above them, it is apparent that they do not see them so that they may aspire to their calling, 'And where is the Pleiades from the hand of the taker?' ﴿Wait for us﴾ meaning wait for us by remaining in your place so that we may catch up with you. And for this, Imam Al-Ghazali, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the Book of Love from the Revival: This verse indicates that the lights must have their origin renewed in the world, then it increases in the Hereafter in brightness; as for it being renewed there, no.

And when the estimation was: they returned or they remained in darkness, it caused a consequence and followed his saying: ﴿So it was struck﴾, built on the passive form, in a manner similar to the first, and to indicate that the striking was done with utmost speed and ease. It is permissible that the 'fa' (so) is a consequence of what came before it without estimation ﴿between them﴾, meaning in [all of] the distance that is between those who believed and their opposers at the time of their saying this.

He said: ﴿with a wall﴾, meaning an enclosing wall that separates between Paradise and Hell, from which none of them can stray, nor can anyone from others surpass it to them. ﴿For him is a gate﴾, entrusted with a veil that they do not open except for whom Allah has permitted from the believers, by what He guides them to of their light that is before them for intercession or something similar. ﴿Its inner part﴾, meaning that wall and gate, which is from the side of those who believed, as a reward for their faith which is unseen. ﴿In it is mercy﴾, which is what they have of honor in Paradise, which is concealed within those in it by its trees and its means, just as their inner parts were filled with mercy. ﴿And its outer part﴾, meaning the wall or gate that appears to the people of Hell, beginning ﴿from its side﴾, meaning facing that outer part and its side and direction, and at it ﴿is the punishment﴾ from the Fire and its preliminaries, for the restriction of its people to the outer parts without them having access to the inner parts, and the opposite of what they intended by preserving their outer appearances in this world while their inner parts were corrupt.
