Commentary
And when he clarified what is for this lender, he described some of his attributes with generosity by stating the time, saying: ﴿On the Day﴾ meaning for them that at the time in which ﴿you see﴾ [with the eye], and he indicated that the beloved of wealth does not depart from it, especially [with] scarcity, except for one in whom faith has settled in his heart, by expressing it with the description, saying: ﴿the believers and the believing women﴾ meaning those for whom faith has become a firmly established attribute ﴿they strive﴾ as a banner for them and a sign of their happiness ﴿their light﴾ which necessitates their sighting of all that benefits them so they take it, and what harms them so they leave it, and that is in accordance with the extent of their righteous deeds which they used to perform with the light of knowledge, which is the fruit of faith, just as they presented the wealth which a person only acquires for such a reward in accordance with it.
And when the one who is intended to be honored is given what is due and what is afterwards noble in the places he loves, he said: ﴿before them﴾ meaning wherever they turn, and for this reason he omitted the preposition ﴿and on their right﴾ [meaning] and it is attached to that direction because these two directions are the noblest of their directions, and they are either from the foremost or from the people of the right, and they are given their records from these two directions, while the wretched one, contrary to that, has no light and is given his record in his left hand and from behind his back. The first is the light of faith and knowledge and the stated deeds, while the second is the light of spending because it is with faith - [he indicated] - as Al-Razi mentioned.
And when he mentioned their influence in what they love from the directions and its facilitation for them, he followed it with what is said to them of the beloved in their conduct towards that beloved, saying: ﴿Good news for you today﴾ meaning your great glad tidings in all that awaits you from time.
And when they longed for that, they were informed of the good news by his saying, indicating that the one who is informed of it is envied from the glad tidings due to being a source of joy ﴿Gardens﴾ meaning existing for you in which you will have the greatest enjoyment, and the news originally is about entering, but he deviated from it due to what he mentioned of exaggeration. Then he described it with what the pleasure cannot be complete except with it, saying: ﴿rivers flowing﴾ and he implied the proximity by affirming the preposition, saying: ﴿from beneath them rivers﴾. And when that cannot be completed with the fear of interruption, he said: ﴿abiding therein﴾ eternally with no end to it, for Allah has granted you that which cannot be inherited from you, just as the rulers of this world, for Paradise has no death in it. And when this was a matter of joy in that constricted place, he loved to begin his praise with the saying: ﴿That﴾ meaning this great matter ﴿is﴾ meaning alone ﴿the great success﴾ meaning that which has filled with its greatness all directions of your beings, bodies, souls, and spirits.
