﴿You will return it﴾ meaning the soul to what it was upon. ﴿If you are﴾ meaning a stable existence. ﴿Truthful﴾ meaning that you are not overwhelmed in being brought before the mighty king who has established you in this abode for trial and testing, and that your affair is not for anyone other than you. In your denial of what He informs you of worldly matters, you are neglecting your gratitude. This is evidence that there is no life for one whose soul has reached the throat. This is an obligation upon them regarding resurrection, the result of which is that if He, glorified and exalted is He, does not bring you back, then He is not the one who has decreed death upon you. And if [it is] not decreed, then why do you not lift it from Him, since it is one of the calamities whose remedy is not known, while you are addressing its causes. And if you say: 'It is decreed and cannot be treated,' you must acknowledge that resurrection is decreed and cannot be treated. If you deny one of them, then deny the other. If you affirm one of them, then affirm the other. Otherwise, it is nothing but obstinacy. If you say: '[We] do not know that He has decreed it,' know that if it were not by His decree, it would have been possible to resist it for a time, especially while souls are inclined to dislike it. Among the dead are the wise and the kings. The implication is that you have gone to extremes in denying the signs of Allah, the Exalted, and His actions in everything. If He sends you a messenger, you say: 'A sorcerer, a liar.' If his sender is truthful with an inimitable book, you say: 'Sorcery, a fabrication, and a strange matter.' If He provides you with the water by which the life of everything is sustained, rain that revives you, you say: 'The star of such and such has been truthful,' in a manner leading to neglect and idleness and frivolity. So why do you not return the soul to the body when it reaches the throat if there is no planner for this universe in sending down and bestowing souls, and taking them and resurrecting the servants for their reckoning for what they have done in what He has established them in? It is a representation of the actions of kings as is known. Just as the kings of this world do not send anyone from them to anyone from their subjects to take him by force except for debt, how can it be assumed of the King of kings otherwise? Would the kings of this world be more just than Him? If it is not complete in power, then act with His messengers as you act with the messengers of the kings. For perhaps the desired matter will be achieved from them by a type of salvation after reaching the door of the [king]. His sending, glorified is He, is like the sending of kings, except that due to the completeness of His power, He takes with a taking that no one can repel, nor can the taken one be followed at all, not to serve him after the taking, nor to alleviate anything from what he is in without what He has commanded, glorified is He, on the tongues of His messengers from supplication and charity, nor to know his condition in any way. Rather, the matter is as it has been said:

When a person is concealed, his speech is kept secret ∗∗∗ And thoughts do not inform about him of what is sufficient.
