And when he clarified from the description of this great Book what necessitates that it should, in its essence, be a proof of that which minds cannot comprehend of its perfection and sufficient for submission to its belief, how could it be when what minds judge and decree to be corrupt is otherwise? How could it be when it is something that a person remembers like it within himself? He was astonished by them making it a reason for denying the resurrection, which when a person remembers the states of his soul, that is enough for him to be certain of it. So he said, denying in astonishment: ﴿Is it with this﴾? And when a person is enamored with what is renewed for him of blessings, even if they are trivial, how about if it is the greatest of blessings? He said: ﴿the discourse﴾ meaning: that which has preceded in its lofty descriptions, and it is renewed for you by its revelation time after time. ﴿You are﴾ meaning: and you, the eloquent Arabs, the articulate and eloquent ones, ﴿hypocrites﴾ meaning: liars, hypocrites, because of it you show what you conceal, that it is a lie, while you know its truthfulness by the goodness of its meanings, and your inability to match it in its structures and compositions. Yet all your actions contradict this, for you endure the impact of swords and the embrace of death, and you do not bring forth anything that opposes it, that initiates something of it or contradicts it, or you do not soften, O believers, to anyone who denies it and attacks its loftiness, or seeks, even in a hidden manner, to undermine something of its bonds, being careless about it. They do not remain steadfast in its conduct, magnifying its matter until they become harder than iron. He said in the dictionary: 'Dahna': he acted hypocritically, and 'al-mudahanah': showing the opposite of what one conceals, like greasing and deceit. And Al-Baghawi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: It is the greasing, which is acting in secret contrary to the apparent. And Al-Razi said: The difference between 'al-mudarah' and 'al-mudahanah' returns to intention. What is intended by it for a purpose other than Allah is 'al-mudahanah', and what is intended by it for a matter related to religion is 'al-mudarah'. And Ibn Burjan said: 'Al-idhan' and 'al-mudahanah': being lenient in matters, being oblivious, and leaning towards transgression - this has ended. Thus, it is a denial of anyone who hears someone speaking about the Qur'an in a manner that is not appropriate, then does not openly declare hostility towards it. The people of unity, like Ibn Arabi the Ta'i, the author of 'Al-Fusus', and Ibn al-Farid, the author of 'Al-Taiyyah', are the first to whom this verse was directed, for they spoke about the Qur'an in a way that fundamentally and essentially invalidates the religion and dissolves it bond by bond. They are the most harmful of people to this religion, and whoever interprets for them or defends them and excuses them or has a good opinion of them is in a state more filthy than them, for his intention is to preserve their words which do not corrupt Islam from [without] having any benefit in preserving them in any way.
