Commentary
And when he completed the oath in this noble manner, he responded to him with his saying, affirming what they had from the apparent denial: "Indeed, it" meaning the Qur'an, which the stars understood by their general understandings, "is a Qur'an" meaning comprehensive, easy, near, elucidating the obscure, possessing noble types. "Generous" in which the varieties of His bounties appeared, glorified and exalted is He, in what is subtle of the matters of this world and exalted of the matters of the Hereafter, by what He mentioned in this surah and what preceded it regarding the rectification of livelihood and the Hereafter. So, it is of great generosity, free from every blemish of deficiency, malice, and baseness. From His generosity is that it is from the Most High King to the best of creation, by the conveyance of the Spirit of the Holy and in the tongue of the Arabs, of whom the sects agreed that their tongue is the most eloquent of tongues and in a manner that incapacitated the Arabs.
