Commentary
And when this was among the wonders of creation, he repeated the assertion and denial as a reminder of it, saying: ﴿Did you create﴾ meaning: you invented, brought into existence, placed, revived, nurtured, and established ﴿its tree﴾ meaning: the marakh and the 'afar from which you take the firestarter that is produced from it. And you placed it in the fire mixed with the water which is its opposite, and you concealed it in that tree, with none of them surpassing the other despite the opposition, so that one overcomes it until it destroys it and eliminates it. ﴿Or are We﴾ meaning: specifically, and he emphasized with his saying: ﴿the creators﴾ meaning: of it with what we have of greatness over that state. So whoever is able to [create] the fire which is the driest that can be from the green trees, along with what it contains of the water that is opposed to it in its nature, is more capable of restoring the freshness and newness in the soil of the body which was fresh and moist, but has dried and decayed. And the verse is from the intertwining similar to what has passed in its sisters, it is the same.
