And when the fire was a cause for the element in which there is water, it would drip and flow, just as water is a cause for the splitting of the earth with crops. And no creature has the ability to reach a type of cause, which he follows as the crops follow the water. This is to clarify the ability regarding what has no cause in the creature below, just as the descent of water is free from their custom in the high. So He said, causing them to reflect on His creations and to contemplate the wonders of His signs, saying: "Have you seen?" meaning, inform me, have you seen with your eyes and insights what has preceded? So you have seen the fire. And when the intended meaning was a specific fire that would stop them at the completeness of His ability and reveal to them that clearly by bringing forth things from their opposites, He said: "Which you ignite," meaning, you extract from the kindling and you light with it, whether the kindling is dry or green, after it was hidden in it. Those who have not tried it would not think that there is fire in it at all. This was like the allusion in which something is shown and something else is intended. Then after that concealment, it became a great manifestation and an increasing authority and a visible greatness that burns everything that comes into contact with it, even what has come out of it. And the Arabs are the most knowledgeable people regarding the matter of kindling, as they cut a branch from the tree of [mirkh] and another from [‘afar], and they rub one against the other, and fire sparks from them, noting that there is fire in every tree, but [mirkh] and [‘afar] were specified for their ease of kindling. And they have said: In every tree, there is fire, and [mirkh] and [‘afar] are preferred.
