And when their drinking of the slightest drop of that is in the utmost wonder, he followed it with something even more astonishing, which is their intense craving for it. He said, explaining what has passed: ﴿So they will be drinking﴾, meaning from it, ﴿drinking﴾ with a fatha in the reading of the majority, and with a damma according to Nafi', Asim, and Hamzah. It was also read unusually with a kasra, and the three are sources. He said in the dictionary: and he drank like he heard, drinking, and it can be tripled, or the drink is a source, and with a damma and a kasra are two names, and with a fatha, the people: they are drinking, and with a kasra: the water and the share of it, and the watering place and the time of drinking, and all of it is suitable here. ﴿the thirsty camels﴾, meaning the thirsty camels, because they have the 'hayam', which is a disease resembling thirst, the plural of 'ahyam'. And Al-Qazzaz said: the plural of 'hayma', and 'hayam' with a damma is a disease that afflicts camels, so they drink and are not quenched. It has been said: 'haym' is sand, into which everything poured upon it flows. The meaning is that they are subjected to hunger that compels them to eat, then from thirst that compels them to drink in this state.
