And when the most delightful of what a person benefits from the blessings is that which he has caused, he said, conveying this to them along with the pleasure of praise, especially when the one praising is the Most High King, magnifying Him through the context of the beneficial question that affirms after the negation, which is useful for specificity in a manner of strong denial against those who imagine otherwise: "Is the reward for good anything but good?" That is, in the deeds [that occur] from humans or jinn or others. "Except good" means in the reward. This is one of the places where the definite article is repeated and the meaning is different. Al-Baghawi narrated with his chain from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Do you know what your Lord says?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "He says: Is the reward for the one whom I have bestowed upon with monotheism anything but Paradise?" And that is the reward for the goodness of the servant in the deed in response to the goodness of his Lord towards him through nurturing.
