Commentary
'So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?' This means the strange and extraordinary blessings in beauty from the Owner, the King, the Nurturer, through the wonders of nurturing. 'You both deny' refers to the blessing of touch from the left side or otherwise, which He made an example of what He mentioned in describing them by likening something to two things, in order to reach a level of beauty that nothing can equal in it, to be likened to it. It is as it is said: 'White in darkness, yellow in a sheep, as if it were silver mixed with gold.' And He, glorified and exalted is He, has made transparent things an example of that. And you see some bodies where the face can almost be seen in it, indeed in the black of the eye is the greatest brightness, where the face can be seen in it, for the black is the source of darkness.
