Commentary
Then he resumed what is done to them in it and said: ﴿They will circulate between it﴾ meaning: between the level of the Fire that scowls at them ﴿and between boiling water﴾ meaning: hot water that, due to its extreme heat, has smoke.
And since this name is applied to the cold, he clarified its matter and said: ﴿of a boiling nature﴾ meaning: its heat reaches a limit beyond which there is no limit. Al-Razi said in the Luminaries: It is said: present, and for this reason, the present is called 'now' because it is the existing present. The past cannot be retrieved, and the future is a hope, and we have nothing except the now. Then, 'now' is not fixed for the blink of an eye, because 'now' is the common part between two times. They are always oscillating between the two punishments of the Fire that melts the exterior and the water that cuts through with its heat for the interior, always present for them, oscillating like a circling one that has neither beginning for its oscillation nor end.
