And when he, blessings and peace be upon him, was intensely attached to seeking their salvation, he perhaps desired to respond to their suggestions. This is indicated by his saying: ﴿So turn away from them﴾, meaning: impose upon yourself the act of turning away from that, for your duty is only to convey the message. As for guidance, it is solely with Allah. And when he clarified the proximity of the Hour by responding to some of their suggestions that stand in place of all of them, indicating His ability to do so, he followed that by weaning them from seeking a response to anything in it, for it does not benefit at all. The complete souls aspired to a description of the Hour, and he answered that in a manner of resuming by mentioning its timing and mentioning... what occurs in it of terrors. He said, commenting with what can be understood: The Hour is certainly approaching with great closeness: ﴿On the Day when He calls﴾. And it is permissible - and Allah knows best - that the one who is designated for it ﴿So turn away﴾ [An-Naml: 28] is because when they turned away when he called them, their recompense was that he would turn away from them on the day of their need for him, for the recompense is of the same kind as the action. It is as if it was said after he counted the Resurrection as a matter that is certain and there is no dispute in it: Turn away from them on that gloomy day in which you are the accepted intercessor... and leave them to their terrors and afflictions, for the loser has become clear, so turn away from them, for it only harms them. For their turning away from you does not harm you at all, and your turning away from them harms them with a harm that has no harm after it, and Allah knows best. The omission of the letter 'waw' in 'calls' is in accordance with the consensus of the manuscripts without necessity, for the context is to clarify its proximity. It is as if it is an indication of its being with the slightest call. Also, in its omission, there is a resemblance of the news to the command, indicating that this call must be in the most magnificent, most precise, most terrifying, and most possible manner, just as every commanded matter is from the obeyed command. The pause on this and similar matters without 'waw' is for all reciters, in agreement with the script, for the rule is that what has a narration is followed even if it contradicts the script or the original, and what has not been narrated from any of them is followed in the script even if it contradicts the original. For the lightening is customary in the speech of the Arabs, like 'the father' and 'the exalted' from His beautiful names. However, the scholar of recitations, Shams ad-Din al-Jazari, said in his book titled 'An-Nashr' regarding these four letters: This and ﴿And man calls﴾ [Al-Isra: 11] in Subhan and ﴿And Allah erases falsehood﴾ [Ash-Shura: 24] in Ash-Shura and ﴿We will call the guardians﴾ [Al-Alaq: 18] in Al-Alaq: The keeper Abu Amr ad-Dani narrated from Ya'qub to pause on them with 'waw' according to the original. Then he said: I said, and this is from his uniqueness, and I have read it through him ﴿The caller﴾, meaning: the blowing in the trumpet ﴿to a great horror﴾, of great description in its horror, which the souls dislike, so the hearts tremble from it, for there is nothing from it except that it is outside of what has preceded from the norm.
