And when he, blessings and peace be upon him, was intensely attached to seeking their salvation, he perhaps desired to respond to their suggestions. This is indicated by his saying: ﴿So turn away from them﴾, meaning: impose upon yourself the act of turning away from that, for your duty is only to convey the message. As for guidance, it is solely with Allah. And when he clarified the proximity of the Hour by responding to some of their suggestions that stand in place of all of them, indicating His ability to do so, he followed that by weaning them from seeking a response to anything in it, for it does not benefit at all. The complete souls aspired to a description of the Hour, and he answered that in a manner of resuming by mentioning its timing and mentioning... what occurs in it of terrors.
