Commentary
And when the latter should be cautious of what happened to the former, and the people of Pharaoh came after the people of Lot, peace be upon him, it was sometimes thought that they were not warned. For whoever knew that the custom was that those who denied the messengers perished would deny that there would be any denial from those who followed that. He said, swearing: "And certainly the family of Pharaoh came." That is, the king of the Copts in Egypt and his nobles, who when seen, it was as if they were seen in him due to their close resemblance to him and their embodying of his characteristics. "The warnings" means the warnings and the warners by the warning of Musa and Harun, peace be upon them. For the warning of some prophets is like the warning of all, because none of them came except that he had from the signs what was similar to which mankind believed. And all miracles are equal in breaking the custom. And Yusuf, peace be upon him, had warned them.
