Commentary
And when the decree was set, the matter was as we mentioned, and the period we specified continued, so they were tempted as we informed. So they called out because of the fitnah to their companion, Qudhar ibn Salif, whom they had chosen out of arrogance and pride to kill the she-camel. And we were lied to in their promise of faith and honoring her with kindness, and he was the most wretched of the first ones. So he engaged in the act, meaning: he caused, because of their calling, the engagement that there is no engagement like it. He took what it was not right for him to take because of the she-camel, and his sword was in his hand, standing in the matter arising from this taking in every case. He raised his head with utmost determination and extended his hands greatly, and he raised them and stood on the toes of his feet when they offered him that, meaning: they asked him about it, so he complied with them and took the she-camel with that sword, unconcerned and indifferent. So he slaughtered, meaning: he caused, as a result of this great seriousness, that he was truthful in what he established for them the lie in the promise of kindness towards her and the arrogance, which was the act of slaughter that there was no slaughter like it in that time, which was the slaughter of the she-camel that is a sign of Allah and its destruction.
