And when it became known from this that He, glorified and exalted is He, separated the matter between them, the listener yearned for knowledge of that. So He, the Most High, began anew, indicating that they had asked Him for a sign that would prove His truthfulness: "Indeed, we" meaning, by what we have of greatness, "are the senders of the she-camel" meaning: the creators of it and the ones who bring it forth, as they proposed from a stone that we had prepared for that and distinguished from among the stones as a sign of our sending of Salih, peace be upon him: specifying for him from among his people. This is because they said to Salih, peace be upon him: We want to know who among us is the truthful one by having our gods answer us and you call upon your God. Whoever's God answers him is known to be the truthful one. So they called upon their idols, but they did not answer them. They said: Call upon your God. He said: What do you want? They said: Bring forth for us from this rock a she-camel that is ten months pregnant. He answered them to that on the condition of faith. They promised him that and confirmed it, but they lied after they had lied about their gods answering them. And he, blessings and peace be upon him, spoke the truth in all that he said. So his Lord, glorified and exalted is He, informed him that He would answer them by bringing it forth as a "trial for them" meaning a test by which He would lead them away from the state they had promised and would respond to them about it. And He, glorified and exalted is He, caused His command regarding that to wait for them in what they would do after their bringing it forth, which would lead them to the consequences of the trial. So He said: "So wait for them" meaning: burden yourself with waiting for them in what will be their recompense for their deeds, waiting for one who guards them, and He is All-Knowing, All-Wise. For indeed, they will reach by their deeds the calamity that is called the mother of calamities, so that they would be like one who has something around his neck. And it indicated by the form of causation that there would be for him a severe pain before the dispute is resolved. So He said: "And be patient" meaning: strive with yourself and exert effort in being patient with them.
