Commentary

And when he mentioned what was known from him by the context of what he mentioned regarding his breaking of the custom, and that his response to his call, blessings and peace be upon him, was mentioned, he referred to the completeness of the victory by his salvation, and he said: ﴿And We carried him﴾ meaning, by what we have of greatness upon the back of that water after all of the surface of the earth became a single flow. He omitted the description to emphasize the encouragement to recognize it by reflecting on the words, and he said: ﴿on a vessel﴾ meaning, a vessel that has ﴿boards﴾ meaning, woods that were planed until they became wide ﴿and nails﴾ the plural of dīsār, which is what is used to secure the ship and connect its boards, and some of them interlock with each other with a nail made of iron or wood or from palm fibers, in a manner of strength and the power of pushing and sturdiness. And perhaps he expressed the ship with what he described to indicate his ability to do what he intends from opening the closure and closing the opening, so that this manufactured thing becomes, and it was towards what he prepared to be intended from it, even if that intended thing was great and that manufactured thing.
