Commentary
﴿And We caused to gush﴾ means: We split open with what We have of greatness, and We cleaved and sent forth. ﴿the earth with springs﴾ means: all the springs of the earth. However, He (p-105) refrained from it for the purpose of exaggeration by being vague, then clarifying. This indicates that the face of the earth became entirely springs.
And since water is a generic name that applies to different types just as it applies to a single type, and since He mentioned the water of the sky and the water of the earth, He caused this to lead to His saying: ﴿So the waters met﴾ meaning: the known, which is the water of the sky and the water of the earth, due to our action of this. He increased in its magnificence by the tool of elevation, saying: ﴿upon a matter﴾. And when this greatness was established for this event, it might have been thought that it occurred randomly. He added to the commanded limit, indicating that in relation to His greatness, it is of the utmost insignificance. He said: ﴿Indeed, it has been decreed﴾ meaning: while it is decreed upon Him at all times with utmost ease, its decree occurred in eternity. He could not add to that a single drop or more than it, nor could He destroy anyone other than whom We commanded to be destroyed. He indicated by the lightening that it is of utmost ease in that, glorified and exalted is He.
