Commentary
So it was near to your companion in the view of those of you who see him, at a distance of two bows from your bows. Al-Razi said in Al-Lawami': meaning that the string in the bow passed twice. And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, the bow is the arm in the language of Azd Shanu'a. And Ibn Burjan said: the distance of two bows is what is between the two ends of the bow. It is said: what is between the grip and the string. Or closer, meaning that the observer among you, if he saw him, would hesitate, and he said that due to how close he was to him, blessings and peace be upon him. Muslim narrated in the Book of Faith from his Sahih: 'From Al-Shaybani, who said: I asked Zirr ibn Hubaysh about His saying, the Exalted: 'So it was at a distance of two bows.' He said: Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, informed me that the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, saw Gabriel, peace be upon him, with six hundred wings.'
