Commentary
And when He destroyed each one of these factions, no one remained of their evildoers. He saved those who obeyed Him from them, and none of them perished. The destruction of each was by something other than what caused the destruction of the other faction. This indicated the completeness of His knowledge and the perfection of His power. Everything that preceded in this surah, from blessings and punishments, was the most complete aspect of judgment, a blessing upon every believer for what is in it of encouragement towards His reward and warning from His punishment. He addressed the head of the believers because His address to him is more intense in reminding others. So He said, causing what has passed: 'So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?' This means the gift of the Benefactor to you, which is the aspect of grace and honor. It is an indication of the knowledge of Him, glorified and exalted is He, in the position of a shadow of a person from the person, just as a shadow cannot be imagined except for a person. Likewise, the action of the doer has no effect from the influencer. 'You doubt' means you are uncertain by the contemplation of thoughts in your mind regarding the intention of guiding your people, whereby you do not want anyone among them to perish, while your Lord has decreed the destruction of many of them due to what His wisdom necessitated. Some of your concern in that contemplation causes doubt in some. And when the speech was completed on this marvelous methodology and elevated style in the beauty of expression for admonitions, legislation, ancient stories, and the great complete warning in a way that is miraculous from various aspects, He produced His saying, encouraging and warning, concluding the surah with what He began here with mentioning him, blessings and peace be upon him.
