Commentary
And when wealth and poverty are among the matters that are intermediate between the voluntary and the compelled, for both reasons, and it is divided between females and males by a divine wisdom, the strength of the male does not benefit him therein, nor does the weakness of the female harm her. And the mention of the Hereafter is like an objection; it necessitated the mention of the first creation. He followed their mention with it. And the mention of wealth, although it indicates poverty, is more appropriate for gratitude and is related to the Lord. And true wealth is only in that abode. He delayed its mention and said: ﴿And indeed﴾. And when it was perhaps attributed to effort and others, he emphasized it with the action and said: ﴿He﴾, meaning alone without regard to the effort of any worker or otherwise ﴿enriched﴾. And when true wealth is indeed the wealth of the soul, which is its contentment with what has been apportioned to it and its tranquility and peace of mind, and the one who possesses wealth is called wealthy because wealth is where the soul finds peace with it. So whoever is content with all that Allah has apportioned for him is wealthy, and he is in Paradise enriched even if he is in this world. ﴿And made sufficient﴾, meaning he made ample of wealth and was pleased in all circumstances. Al-Baghawi said: He gave the essentials of wealth and what is saved after sufficiency. He said: And Al-Akhfash said: made sufficient means made poor - this is the end. And Al-Asbahani reported something similar from Abu Zayd. So the hamzah would be for removal, and it is said, he made him cease with such and such, and he made him sufficient: he made him capable of it.
