And when He, glorified and exalted is He, affirmed this within Himself at the time of the affirmation, to purify Him from what was attributed to Him, this became a cause for questioning the origin of what was said about Him. He responded with limitation, and the verse is clearer and more effective against their profound denial. He said: "Indeed, it is not but revelation that is revealed to him" (Qur'an 53:4), meaning that what he speaks of from the Qur'an and its explanation, and all his sayings, actions, and states, is revealed to him except for revelation from Allah, the Most High. He affirmed this by saying: "It is revealed" (Qur'an 53:4), meaning that His revelation is renewed to him from time to time. It is permissible for him, blessings and peace be upon him, to exert effort, and when his effort settles on something, it is revealed to him that he has attained the truth. Although He, glorified and exalted is He, has permitted him to exert effort with revelation, he who refers what he strives for back to what has been revealed is free from desire.

And Abu Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr said in his proof: When He, glorified and exalted is He, cut off their connection with the words: magician, poet, and madman—to what is known that cannot stand on its own—yet the state of the disconnected and bewildered is to find comfort in what is available to them, even if it does not benefit them. Allah, glorified and exalted is He, followed this with an oath to purify His Prophet and His chosen one from His creation of what the weak have said and imagined. He said, the Most High: "By the star when it sets" (Qur'an 53:1), "Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred" (Qur'an 53:2). Then He, glorified and exalted is He, followed this oath by elaborating on the state of His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and his closeness and reception of what he receives from his Lord and his great status with Him. In expressing this, He stirs them, the Mighty and Majestic, and reminds them and reproaches them for their bad accusations with gentle and inviting words. He said, the Most High: "Have you seen al-Lat and al-'Uzza?" (Qur'an 53:19). The verses converged on these purposes to inform of His uniqueness, glorified and exalted is He, in creation, dominance, honor, and vengeance. No one shares with Him in any of that. He said: "And indeed, to your Lord is the finality" (Qur'an 53:42), "And indeed, it is He who makes [some] laugh and weep" (Qur'an 53:43). And when He clarified this, He said: "So in what statement after it will they believe?" (Qur'an 53:60), meaning in what blessing do you doubt or with what sign do you deny? Then He said: "This is a warner from the warners of old" (Qur'an 53:56). And if he, blessings and peace be upon him... the state of his deniers is the state of the deniers of others.
