﴿What is there to defend him﴾ because there is no partner for His position, as indicated by these oaths of His complete power, the grandeur of His wisdom, and the regulation of the actions of the servants for recompense. Whether we say that the book is what the guardians write or what regulates the religion, when He established the recompense for them in the record and annulled their covenant and broke their assembly, He brought your community out of that constriction. So likewise, He will support you until you establish with them, break their assembly, crush their strength, and kill their leaders, and your religion will prevail over their religion. And whoever remains from them will be of your party and supporters of your religion. Al-Baghawi said: "Jubair ibn Mut'im, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I came to Medina to speak to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, regarding the captives of Badr. I approached him while he was praying with his companions the Maghrib prayer, and his voice was coming from the mosque. I heard him reciting ﴿By the Mount﴾ [Al-Tur: 1] - until His saying - ﴿Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is bound to occur﴾ [Al-Tur: 7] ﴿What is there to defend him﴾. It was as if my heart was shattered when I heard him, and I had not yet embraced Islam that day. I embraced Islam out of fear of the descent of punishment, as I did not think I could stand from my place until the punishment befalls me." (p-8) And Imam Abu Ja'far ibn Al-Zubair said: When Allah, the Exalted, threatened the disbelievers of Quraysh and those who were on their path from among all who denied the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, that they would suffer what others among the deniers of the nations suffered, which was mentioned in the surah before, then He pointed, glorified is He, to the great disgrace and painful punishment that will befall them by saying: ﴿So woe to those who disbelieve from their Day which they are promised﴾ [Ad-Dhariyat: 60]. He swore, glorified is He, to the truth of that and its occurrence - and we seek refuge in Him, glorified is He, from His wrath and painful punishment - so He said, the Exalted: ﴿By the Mount﴾ [Al-Tur: 1] - until His saying - ﴿Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is bound to occur﴾ [Al-Tur: 7] ﴿What is there to defend him﴾. Then He indicated, glorified is He, to those deserving of it and those who are worthy of it by saying ﴿So woe that Day to the deniers﴾ [Al-Tur: 11]. Then He mentioned what they will be reprimanded for and reproached for regarding what they previously attributed to him, blessings and peace be upon him, of sorcery. He said, the Exalted: ﴿Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny﴾ [Saba: 42] ﴿Is this magic or do you not see?﴾ [Al-Tur: 15]. Then He followed with the mention of the state of the believing responders. Then He mentioned after informing him of the state of the two groups - His favor upon His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and His protection and safeguarding him from what the slanderers say. He said, the Exalted: ﴿So remind, for by the favor of your Lord you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman﴾ [Al-Tur: 29]. Then the verses continued to rebuke them for their statements and the weakness of their transitions, as at one time they say: a soothsayer, and at another time they say: a madman, and at another time they say: a poet who is awaiting his death. So He rebuked them for all of that and clarified their lies and forced them and nullified what was in their hands by His saying ﴿Then let them bring a statement like it if they are truthful﴾ [Al-Tur: 34]. (p-9) And this is what nullifies what they have claimed at the beginning and the end, and this is what they found no answer for, and they accepted the sword and exile. They did not attempt to oppose it. And this is what is mentioned in His saying, the Exalted, at the beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah: ﴿And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down to Our servant, then bring a surah like it﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 23] the verses. They did not utter a word in response to it. ﴿Say: If the humans and the jinn gathered to bring the like of this Qur'an, they would not bring the like of it﴾ [Al-Isra: 88]. So blessed is He who made it a clear sign and a compelling proof - the end.
