And when he swore by what indicates the prophethood of Musa, peace be upon him, and he emphasized by what pointed to the prophethood of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, and he reiterated by what is common between them. The first was, with that, indicative of the stability of the earth, and the third of its suitability for habitation, and the second of the protector in that. And he fourth by what completed the benefits, and he warned of the fall just as he frightened by the first of the sinking. And he fifth by what indicated what was intended by the first of stability, for if there were a tilt, the sea would have surged towards it. He responded to the oath by saying: "Indeed, the punishment." And when he, glorified and exalted is He, is great in honoring him, blessings and peace be upon him, he attributed the punishment to the attribute of kindness and the specific nurturing towards him. And he added the attribute to his own self, indicating that he would show him in his nation what pleases him. And that the similarity of "their sins are like the sins of their predecessors" is merely in the humiliation, not in that he would eradicate them as he eradicated those. So he said: "Your Lord," meaning the One who took charge of your nurturing, what punishment He intended for everyone He intended it for, especially the adversaries of His allies, glorified and exalted is He. "It is certainly coming," meaning it is established, descending upon whom He intended the descent of what is heavy from a high place, just as if He had wanted, He would have turned the earth which He stabilized and brought down the ceiling which He raised, and released the sea which He restrained, as is known from His releasing the sea as a split upon the family of Pharaoh until He drowned them with it.
