Commentary
And when the house must have a ceiling in its name, He said: ﴿And the raised ceiling﴾. He means the ceiling of the Kaaba, indicating that it is a well-constructed building, with a closed door and a ceiling that is perfected in a manner greater than the perfection of the ceiling of the dome of the time, which the Children of Israel witnessed from the divine greatness and majesty, about which if you asked them, they would inform you. Yet, with that, He imposed upon the tablet - which is in its interior, and perhaps it was in its ceiling such that no one could reach it - what corrupted it, confirming the establishment of what He intended by His matter as a warning of what He threatened with. It can also be meant by that the sky, in which is what you are promised. It is known to every person of reason that the least of ceilings does not rise without pillars except by unseen causes. So how about the sky, which has vastness, greatness, thickness, and what is in it from the stars, which cannot be explained by minds? They do not look at its causes, as He, glorified and exalted is He, said: ﴿Without pillars you see them﴾ [Ar-Ra'd: 2]. It has been reported from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: It is the Throne, and it is the ceiling of Paradise.
