'So leave them' means leave them in the worst of their conditions 'until they meet' striving with the evil of their deeds 'on their day' just as He strives towards them for their deserving of what is in it 'which is in it' not in other than it, because what We have decreed does not advance or delay. 'They will be struck down' by death from the severity of the horrors and the great earthquake, just as the Children of Israel were struck down at the Mount. However, We will establish them as We established those, except at the blowing of the trumpet to gather them for the reckoning which they deny. The apparent meaning is that this day is the day of Badr, for they were certain of victory therein, and no one among them benefited another in anything, as Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith said: 'It was only that we met them, and we offered them our sides, and they killed us as they wished and captured us as they wished.'
