Commentary
And when the one who denies something may acknowledge that it is from his Lord, and that his Lord is characterized by all the attributes of perfection, having no partner, his denial is only due to a defect that he cannot bear, and a distress that he has thrown upon him with all its burdens. He turned away from them, shifting to the first style, and said, addressing him ﷺ, to honor him by mentioning him and elevating his great status, and to console what he knows of his noble self's innocence from it: "Or do you ask them" meaning, O pure one, far removed from the places of accusation, "for a reward" for conveying what you have brought to them, "so they are burdened" even if it is little. And the burden is the obligation of what is not required. "They are weighed down" meaning, a burden has been placed upon them by that, so they deny the one who was the cause of this burden without any evidence, so that they may find relief from what it has brought upon them of the burden.
