Commentary
And when their saying is something that should not be said at all, and if it is said, it is said in a distant manner, his saying is as if it is on the side of the precedence of the tongue or something like that. He alerted to it by equating it with what its estimation is: Did they say that out of bewilderment: ﴿Or do you command them﴾ meaning you beautify for them a beautification that leads them to it from the emergence like the command ﴿Their dreams﴾ meaning their minds which they claim they have been distinguished by its excellence over others, to the extent that it was said about them: The possessors of dreams and intellects (p-24) ﴿By this﴾ meaning while they believe in its correctness and that it is the equal justice because they are bound by dreams and intellects despite the corruption in it due to contradiction after the disturbance of each of its sayings on its own as has been previously clarified. And this is a great rebuke by indicating that they do not have minds at all for their saying this. For the soothsayer's condition is that he must be at the utmost level of knowledge among them, to the extent that they make him a judge and perhaps they worship him. And the madman is not suitable for any benefit because he does not comprehend. And the poet is far from the matter of weighing words and their abundance from the rhymed speech of the soothsayer and others and the words of the madman: ﴿Or are they﴾ with their outward appearances and their inner selves ﴿A people﴾ meaning possessors of strength in what they attempt, so they are therefore ﴿Transgressors﴾ meaning exceeding the limits. And this is their habit as understood by the description. Therefore, they do not care about the apparent stubbornness in opposing what the dreams and intellects command. And no one says it except the tyrants and fools despite the truth being apparent to them. They say contradictory words without caring for anyone or feeling shy about being attributed to aggression and exaggeration in disobedience. And the verse is from the intertwining: He mentioned the dreams first as evidence against them secondly, and the tyranny secondly against its opposite, "the equal justice" first. And its secret is that what he mentioned is more repulsive from evil and greater in its ugliness and a warning against it.
